At present, the spectacle service (optical dispenser) in Nepal seems to have developed only as a business due to the lack of official training, which has led to the operation of spectacle fitting and spectacle business only on the basis of practical capacity. There are also examples of people stop wearing glasses due to lack of quality service. Therefore, since the spectacle business is not only a business but also a part of health, it is easy to run it in a systematic manner by producing trained citizens, creating knowledge about optical dispensing and producing skilled employment or self-employed manpower. There is an urgent need to increase production and directly contribute to the economic and social development of the society.

What Students will learn

After passing this optical dispenser course the candidate will be able to:
  • They will be able to organize and manage the spectacles business on their own.
  • Guide the person with refractive errors to choose suitable frames and appropriate ophthalmic lenses
  • Measure the power of lens by hand neutralization and lensometry method.
  • Fit the spectacles of any nature, identify the needs of the patients and distribute the spectacles related sales.
  • Do lens glazing by manual process
  • Troubleshoot the problematic or fix the broken spectacles
  • Do the frame measurements, Pupillary distance measurement , frame centering and decentering
  • Identify the defects on lenses.
  • Fit progressive and 3 piece lenses.

Training duration and target group

The training period of this course will be three months (390 hours). People who have passed class ten and are interested in this business will be able to take training. There will be a maximum of 20 trainees in a period. Study will be taught in Nepali language.

Eligibility Criteria

SEE/SLC Passed Selection will be made on first come first basis subject to meeting the eligibility criteria.
